US; Brain cancer now deadliest

The centers for Disease Control and Prevention in United States said brain cancer now is deadliest form of childhood cancer surpassing leukemia as treatment advances allowed to cure many blood related cancers in United State.

Report of 1999 shows nearly one in three children who died of cancer had leukemia and the deaths on one in four children caused by brain cancer. The numbers revised in 2014.

The author of report Sally Curtin said forms of leukemia that a generation ago were almost universally fatal are now almost universally curable.

The National Center for health Statistics study shows that Cancer deaths rates for children dropped to 20% from 1999.

The head of pediatric neuro-oncology at the National Cancer Institute Katherine Warren said for pediatric brain tumors in particular not significant headway made at all. Added that childhood brain cancer is more difficult to treat, in part because the blood-brain barrier protects the central nervous system from toxins so its hard to deliver chemotherapy.
