Australia parliament rejects same sex bill
Australia's center-right coalition government introduced legislation to parliament last month on whether to legalese same sex marriage. The bill requires opposition support because Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull's coalition has only one vote majority in parliament and doesn't have majority in upper house.
The Labor leader Bill Shorten said "Why should gay Australians be subjected to a different law-making process than any other Australians?, why should a couple in a committed relationship have to knock on the doors of 15 million of their fellow Australians and see if they agree with it?"
The Labor party said it would not support a national vote.
The issue of of same sex marriage would not be reintroduced into parliament until after the next election before 2019
